In Cold Blood
Written by: Truman Capote
In Cold Blood tells the true story of the murder of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas, in 1959. The book is written as if it were a novel, complete with dialog, and is what Truman Capote referred to as "New Journalism" — the nonfiction novel. Truman Capote chose to write this book because he wanted to write about a true account of an actual murder case.
Still learning about The Critical Race Theory, we applied our learning to this book. Reading this book and holding a different perspective to it, changed the whole idea of this read. When we looked for different lenses in Truman's book we saw; Psychoanalysis, Marxism, Feminism. We had to write an essay, telling our readers how one of these lenses were used in the book. When I read, I saw psychoanalytic stand out to me, so I wrote my essay on it. I used evidence, of when Truman showed how Dick and Perry were not mentally stable. Looking at my peers essays, it's interesting to see how they read the book differently than I did by using a different perspective. To see my writing process of my essay, please see My Writing. |
